What Is An Entrepreneur?

At trimo.co.za we say: When you are the master of your own business, you hold your destiny in your hands. My name is Hester Minnie and I have been in business since the age of 16. When I was younger I loved to buy and sell. My father taught me that one should always keep your eyes and ears open, since you never know when the opportunity to make money may arise. He taught me that I should never say no to any opportunity to learn something new. He taught me that even if someone just asks me to help with something, I have to grab the opportunity to learn. I started watching my father and my brothers and decided that if they could do business, so could I.

The fact that I was a woman and that business was for men did not scare me at all. My father taught me that it does not matter who you are, it matters how you can change the world. He was an entrepreneur and he made sure that we learnt the benefits of being an entrepreneur. He taught us that we should not idolise money, that money must be used to create good.

Being inquisitive is one of the best traits that an entrepreneur can have. And so is being fearless. Most people do not become entrepreneurs even when they have the opportunity and the money because they idolise money. That happens because they fear losing their money if they are not successful. Fearful people will never be entrepreneurs because money is their idol. One needs to spend money to make money!

I have always loved the fact that having a business would give me spare time to do what I wanted to when I wanted to. I love the fact that I could work for myself and keep the profits that I make to do as I please. Being free to spend my life any way I wanted to has always been my goal and it will always be my goal.

I am not a person that can work for someone. I have never wanted to conform and do the same thing over and over every day. How boring! How can one work for someone and let them get rich from your ideas?

I loved what money could do for me and got addicted to the idea of doing my own thing. At the age of 16 I learned that if I wanted something, I had to work for it. I also found that I had to sacrifice sometimes to get what I wanted. In our family we do not retire, we die with a smile on our face after reaping the many benefits of being able to do our own unique thing. Sitting on the step and wondering what would have happened if we took the opportunity is not an option. We only have one life, it should be spend in a way that people will say, she made a difference in my life.

I was fortunate to grow up in a family where doing business was the norm and where all the siblings competed with each other to see who could make the most money, and drive the best cars. I have visited many countries around the world and when I was younger I had my own boat and my own airplane. Now it seems as though I am bragging and to some it may sound that way, but I am telling you this because I want you to understand what the benefits of having your own business is.
